I have been studying the Christmas story from the different gospels of the Bible and a common theme across all is the concept of waiting. This is not ordinary waiting. It's waiting for years on end for a baby who had no plans of appearing during his parents youth. Waiting for a promised Saviour King whose date of arrival was still unknown. It was waiting for a sign that years of prayerful waiting had not gone in vain. Waiting for a baby of supernatural origins who would change the destiny of every man and woman ever born on earth. Waiting is never easy but it's absolutely essential since it shapes who we will be once our wait is over. Which means that waiting and transformation go hand in hand. I cannot wait and yet stay the same person I was when I went into that waiting period.
Waiting can be painful many times since to the world it may look like you are procrastinating or whiling away your time when in reality you are going through so much privately. Waiting that is misunderstood is a hard wait. My opinion (if I may)? You don't owe anyone any explanations or reasons for the wait you're in right now. It's yours to own and patiently endure.
I notice that in the years of my family's waiting we have begun to slowly change. Mindsets are changing. Behavioural patterns are changing. World views are changing. Changing in the sense that our wait involved us understanding our purpose for living which in turn meant we had to remove certain harmful ideas and notions from our minds in order to accommodate new and improved mindsets and attitudes. I can't say we have arrived yet since we sometimes accidentally slip back into old patterns of being and thinking. I'm sure it will take time but I'm glad we are in the waiting zone. I'm glad because it's where I find beauty in the small things, I see breakthrough where no one else can see it and I get a renewed sense of purpose and vision for the future.
Do you feel like you've been waiting forever? Don't give up hope. Instead of waiting for your situation to change why don't you look into yourself and see how you have changed and if that's not happened yet, you still have time. Let the wait transform you!
