What are you doing right now? I don’t mean right this second but I mean in life. Are you doing the mundane, the routine and the less than fun stuff? Or maybe you are doing exciting things but you’re not in it heart and soul. I just want to remind you today to give careful consideration to your destiny.
Lamentations 1:19 (NKJV) says that "Israel did not consider her destiny"
This verse got me out of my chair.
To give you a little context, Israel, God's chosen people had gone berzerk with their wanton ways. They are thus sent off into captivity and had become the laughing stock of everyone around because they did not consider the beautiful future ahead of them.
A life with a realised destiny is a powerful one. I mean, look at our forerunners-Mother Teresa, Billy Graham, Martin Luther King Jr. to name a few.
Can you just imagine how many wrong choices we could have avoided had we only thought of this huge destiny that awaits us. No crying over spilt milk for us though right?
What can we do differently starting now?
For starters we could look at relationships differently. We could guard our marriages with everything we have. We could keep our lives free from the things that control and hold us down. Addictions would have no place in our life. If only we remembered our destiny every time we hit that party and came out of it disoriented and with no memory of what happened the night before.
What if our destiny prodded us every time we spent endless time on social media instead of doing the things that matter most?
What if we pursue our careers with just enough zeal so as to invest more in our precious families who are vital to that destiny?
What if our destiny involves us stepping out boldly from a premarital relationship that you know is heading towards a dark place?
How about if our destiny needed us to stay in our marriage and work harder at it because through that process our destiny is reached. I agree this might sound over simplified considering life is never just white and black. That being said, I still believe with all my heart that every struggle, every set back, every experience on this journey of life is meant to shape us and prepare us for a beautiful destiny.
Our destiny cannot be a mere destination nor is it solely about us because that would be so finite and self indulgent.
Our destiny should extend beyond our lifetimes and should affect others other than ourselves. It’s bigger than we can ever imagine and so I hope after you read this you don’t fret over what your destiny is or how to get there. Instead, I would that you live every minute mindful of the moments that lead up to that destiny. That you would make the best choices that would shape that destiny no matter how hard or impossible it seems.
Go get that Destiny!
