I happen to love the Gap brand! Baby Gap - even better! But I'm not talking about that Gap. I'm thinking of the gaps we encounter in our lives. We happen upon huge generation gaps making us feel older by the minute. We feel gaps between the secular and the sacred and sense confusion in those trying to bridge it.
What I realise now is that some of us are just born to be Gap standers and Gap fillers.
So I happen to love the old hymns written by those veteran hymn writers with all their rich life stories and I also love the songs written today by modern songwriters and worship leaders. I love listening to classical music created by maestros like Beethoven , Bach and Mozart but I happen to love shaking my booty to hip hop, R&B and yes even pop!! I enjoy spending time with women who are older than me whose lives are rife with wisdom and experience but I also covet time with those younger than me who keep me up to date with changing trends in fashion, slang and all things 'happening'. And yes.. I try to imbibe as much 'youthfulness' off them as I can to keep me feeling young !! (Not really!!! I wish it worked that way tho').
I believe in the power of a traditional church service and relish the strength in togetherness but I also have found church when it's just a group of people who love each other and stand by each other through thick and thin without judgement. Our family has seen the collision of the secular and sacred and have found that there really is no separation.
Everything I do, say and work for is seamlessly woven into the fabric of who God created me to be.
If you're like me and feel like a cat on the wall not really fitting in on either side then I urge you to jump into the Gap right now! Fill that gap in the only way you can.. enjoying the things you do that bridge the two sides..loving the people on either side of the Gap..
Gaps are meant to be filled! Who know.. maybe that's why you were created!
