As Mother’s Day arrives this year I couldn’t help but think of all the years I’ve been a mother and how none of this would have even been possible if not for God’s constant presence and help. There have been long days and longer nights. There has been much laughter interspersed with many tears too. There have been mistakes made and lots of emotional clean up jobs that were needed. There were moments when I thought all was lost until I found that God had made a way in the midst of the worst situations.
In every season of my life and our family’s life there was one divine ingredient that held everything and everyone together. That was grace! We Christians throw around that word so much that we may have forgotten just what it really means. God’s grace is so supernatural in that it brings rewards and replenishing to our lives when we least expect it or deserve it.
It’s the strong net that holds us when it feels like the floor beneath our feet gave out. It’s what keeps us going each day even when we physically don’t have the strength to go on.
Grace is like the invisible thread that holds the pieces of our life together and that eventually helps everything make sense.
When you look at your life, what are the evidences of God’s grace that you see?
What do you see when you think back on those hard paths you walked?
We very often attribute it to our resilience or our ability to weather any storm when in reality it’s purely the grace afforded to us by a very kind and compassionate God.
When we reflect on the days when we experienced favour, breakthrough and blessing, we’ll realise that most of those happened at a juxtaposition of our labour and God’s generosity (the latter being in greater proportion to the former). More often than not though, it happened when we didn’t even see it coming, which is why it is so supernatural.
A few of my very close family members celebrate their birthdays in this month and when I was reflecting on their lives and the magnitude of the impact they have had on others I realized that grace was really the overall theme of their lives! It was not their goodness, good works or nice-ness that raked in the blessings and favor but purely the graciousness of God toward them. His endless mercy and His overwhelming grace have been the book ends of their lives and the connecting thread that held everything together.
If you have been worried about how your life will turn out, if you feel you have made too many wrong decisions or if you don’t see how any good can come from your life, can I reassure you today that God’s grace will make a way!
It will carry you through, shield you and empower you to face anything that life throws at you.
You can count on God’s grace to come through for you and stay with you.
